The three items i'm going to use to describe my past, present, and future are a flower my dad gave me, and two alex and ani bracelets.
Alex and Ani bracelets are kind of like charm bracelets that describe who you are as a person. They're best given as gifts to describe what someone means to you.
The white flower my dad gave me when I was 5 years old has such a deeper meaning than just a flower. I took dance when I was little and we had a daddy daughter dance where all the girls and their daddy's came to practices and learned a slow dance for us to dance to in front of our families. We danced to Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carsile. I will never forget that song and the lyrics. The important verse is, "Butterfly kisses, after bedtime prayer; sticking little white flowers all up in her hair". The dad's stuck flowers in our hair and I know I was just five years old but at that moment in time, I knew my dad was my hero and my idol. And now that I am older and more mature; and after everything we've been through together; I know he has taught me to be the person I am today and I have learned so much through him. In my eyes, the white flower is a symbol of growth and that is exactly what he has taught me.
For the present moment, I am using an Alex and Ani bracelet that says "Today is an Opportunity". My mother gave this to me on my birthday this past summer. I know my family see's so much potential in me and I want to show them by best in everything I do. I truly believe that each day I wake up in the morning, if I don't do something to benefit me or someone else, it is a day wasted. I believe that every single day is an opportunity to learn something new, better yourself, and better the people around you. I realized this one day in the fall. It was truly beautiful weather and nothing specific happened. I was leaving breakfast with my friends and held the door open for a few elderly women and they smiled and said thank you very much. I think, even though so small, in that moment I looked down at my bracelet and thought that everyday is an opportunity to make someone smile and if you can make someone smile at least once a day; you can better yourself and the world.
For my future moment, I am using another Alex and Ani bracelet. This one was given to me by my best friend for my birthday as well. The starfish represents vigilance, intuition and ability.
The starfish is a resilient creature that constantly regenerates, intuitively navigates the sea, and directly impacts its ecological community. An ancient name for the Virgin Mary, the Star of the Sea symbolizes guidance, intuition, and vigilance. Wear the Starfish Charm for divine guided direction and a heightened sense of potential. That is what was said on the back of the card that came with the bracelet. A dream of mine in the future is to be a marine biologist, live by the sea and set up my own little surf shop. I want to live peacefully and freely when I am older. I think my friend got the starfish for me because I love the water and the sea, but i also am extremely glad she got that for me, Knowing that a starfish can have such a beautiful meaning behind it, makes me want to fulfill my dreams of being a marine biologist. I know i have the potential and the perfect guidance to get me there. I have the ability, vigilance and intuition; and i figured that out with the help of my family members. I learned that I have the power to do whatever i want when i took a vacation to Hawaii two summers ago. I had received surf lessons before but my friend didn't so we got surf lessons again. We surfed on the North Shore of Oahu, Hi. I was paddling out to the deeper water and saw an amazing wave coming. I wasn't scared, but instead empowered. As i am turning my board around and paddling as fast as i can, i look down and clearly see a giant sea turtle underneath me. I got up on the board, looked at the most beautiful scenary I've ever seen and surfed that wave all the way to shore. I have never felt so empowered to do whatever i want to do and have the vigilance to succeed at it.
